Music Monday

Dear Readers,

For people with anxiety, there are different assets that can help cope with the mental illness. The act of coping and handling the anxiety is different from person to person. However, from research, there are a few common factors that can help many people. One of those factors being music.

Music has helped me handle my anxiety for a while, there is just something about music that allows me to relax and calm down the anxiety.  Because music is such a major aspect of how I treat my anxiety, I have decided to add a theme day surrounding music.

Every Monday will now be Music Monday, which will consist of me of me presenting 3+ songs that have helped friends and me with anxiety.

Now not everyone has the same music taste. Some people like rock, while others prefer jazz. However, I find that no matter the genre, instrumental versions of songs are the best for the anxiety.

When songs include words, as most words do, I tend to focus on the meaning of the words and not so much with the actual music. Words also can inflict feelings that make invoke another anxiety attack, because of that all the music this week are all instrumental music of popular songs. It may differ in the future.

Harry Potter Medley performed by Albert Chang: Violin 1, Jun Sung Ahn: Violin 2, Lily: Piano, and Baiyu Li: Cello

Harry Potter has an awesome soundtrack full of many songs that help me calm down and try to focus away from my anxiety.  The comfort comes from both the fact that I find the music very soothing and because it comes from some of my favorite movies.

Even if you have never seen Harry Potter, the tempo and overall vibe of the music is incredibly calming.
Dancing On My Own By Calum Scott( instrumental)

Although this is not a Calum Scott original song, the instrumental version of this song is very calming. This song is also a perfect example of how without the lyrics, it makes the song more universal. The lyrics can add a more negative vibe to the song, but without the song can mean what you need it to.

Bella’s Lullaby (Solo Piano) Performed by Stan Whitmire
No matter your feelings about Twilight ( I know...I know but just hear me out) the soundtrack in my "professional" opinion is pretty soothing and great to de-stress. The tone is perfect for helping the heart rate to slow back down and help calm the anxiety back down.

I found another awesome blog about anxiety called Very well Mind that will give more tips about coping with anxiety that you can read after mine posts!

Current event fact of the day: People with anxiety are more likely to have a heart attack but they are also more likely to survive the attack.

  1. This is really interesting, and could be helpful to people. Ive read about studies that prove music can help anxiety by making people calmer and slowing your heart rate down because of the rythm and beat. Some people just feel at ease when listening to certain music. I know for myself some music does make me calmer. I like the theme and am interested to see what songs you pick in the future.

  2. I love your idea of Music Monday! I know I personally find solace in music when I get overwhelmed or stressed. (Lord knows I have enough playlists for all of my moods.) I look forward to exploring different music styles and songs that I haven't heard before while reading your blog each week.

  3. I absolutely love this idea and I cannot wait to see more songs. Whenever I am feeling anxious, I do not often turn to music even though I know it helps. When I do use music, it is usually when I am trying to fall asleep and the songs I listen to are relatively sad and include lyrics. I will have to try listening to instrumental more often, and change up my sleep playlist.

  4. I love the idea of Music Monday's. Music is truly the best way to calm down. There is almost always a perfect song for that one moment. I am excited to read more about how more instrumental songs help you calm down, because I know with me, instrumental songs, just make my mind think more about what I'm anxious about. I have found that for me, I let myself get lost in the words (of mainly country songs) and that helps more than I can even explain. Good luck in future Music Monday posts.
